As luxurious as this hot crab dip recipe might sound, it's also one of the easiest party dips! Let the stand mixer do the hard work, then simply bake it in the oven until it's thick and bubbly. It starts with a cream cheese base, adding plenty of horseradish and hot sauce for a kick, and slivered almonds for crunch. It's the perfect appetizer for the holidays, Super Bowl party dip, or even a snack before dinner for two.
What do you serve with hot crab dip?
Crab dip's creamy base needs something crunchy, like a thick tortilla chip. We love using Frito's Scoops to maximize the amount of dip scooped per chip. Though this dip is rich, the flavor of the crab is delicate. Fresh veggies like carrots, cucumbers, baby bell peppers, and even endive leaves make great dippers as well, and won't cover up the flavor of the crab.
Do you need to use fresh crab for crab dip?
The clean flavor of fresh crab meat cannot be beat, however it can be a little pricy. Canned crab is absolutely okay to use in this recipe (not to be confused with imitation crab), just be sure to drain the liquid from the crab before adding to the base or your dip might be watery. If you do seek out fresh crab meat, no need to go all out on jumbo lump (though it won't hurt to use it here). Less expensive types of fresh crab meat—like backfin or claw meat—work, too.
