On January 20, 2002, Ford headed into the 59th annual Golden Globes already a winner. He would be receiving the Cecil B. DeMille Award, which is an honorary award given out to those who have made "outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment." However, he could have never expected he would run into the real prize later that evening.

Calista Flockhart arrived at the ceremony as a nominee. She was up for Best Television Actress - Musical/Comedy Series for her role in Ally McBeal, which ultimately went to Sarah Jessica Parker.

The two stars crossed paths for the first time that evening—marking the beginning of their many famed public appearances together.

This first date was a little unusual—it involved a third wheel! James Marsden, a friend and former costar of Flockhart on Ally McBeal, revealed what it was like stringing alongside the star couple's first date on The Late Late Show with James Corden.

"She asked me after we wrapped [Ally McBeal] if I would come along with her to this date," Marsden told the host. He explained that Flockhart was a bit nervous, and wanted a close friend with her as she hung out with this "new guy."

Dinner was followed by cocktails at Ford's house, which Marsden also attended.

"I'm a harbinger of a wonderful, long relationship," he joked. "I take the credit for that."

The couple appeared in lots of paparazzi photos in the early 2000s.

Their first date must have been a hit!

The star duo practically became inseparable, and there's photo evidence to prove it. Ford and Flockhart were seen everywhere and anywhere in the early 2000s, showing off their new-couple glow at the likes of the Venice Film Festival, fashion shows, and a surplus of movie premieres.

It became clear pretty fast that the couple was here to stay for the long run.

The couple tied the knot after almost a year and a half of being engaged. They became legally bound in June of 2010, in a rather private ceremony that took place in Santa Fe, New Mexico. This is also where Ford was filming his movie Cowboys and Aliens.

Harrison Ford adopted Calista Flockhart's son, Liam.

Before Ford and Flockhart even met, she had adopted her son Liam as a single mother in 2001, the same year he was born.

"I have always wanted to adopt a child and I am overjoyed that I have been blessed with a beautiful and healthy son," Flockhart said in a statement released that year. "I'm completely enchanted and awe-struck."

When Flockhart started dating Ford just a year later, the actor helped raise Liam as his own.

"She's a mother by choice — she adopted Liam before we met, as a single parent, which is an awesome responsibility to take," Ford said of Flockhart in an interview with Reader's Digest in 2008. "She's devoted herself to Liam and has done a really wonderful job raising him. I'm happy to now have a part of the job."

After Ford and Flockhart married, the actor adopted Liam as his own.

(Prior to this, Ford had four kids of his of his own: Benjamin, Willard, Malcolm, and Georgia. He shares Benjamin and Willard with his first wife, Mary Marquardt, and shares Malcom and Georgia with his second wife, Melissa Mathison.)
