The Crown is known for portraying a fictional dramatization of the royal family starting with Queen Elizabeth's early reign in the 1950s. Over the years, we've seen major historical events, including a visit from the Kennedys at Buckingham Palace and the election of Margaret Thatcher as Prime Minister. Season 6 will reportedly start out in the late 1990s with Princess Diana's tragic death and will end in the early 2000s when Prince William starts dating Kate Middleton at St. Andrews University. First-look photos reveal that the show will also have moments of flashbacks, particularly with Queen Elizabeth and Princess Margaret. And although the final season will take place in the 21st century, it has been confirmed that it will not continue into the present day.

Who will play Queen Elizabeth and the rest of the cast?

The Crown's story of Queen Elizabeth will come to a close with Imelda Staunton. The Oscar-nominated actress, who's known for her roles in the Harry Potter franchise and the Downton Abbey film, joined the cast as the Queen in season 5 and she will continue in season 6. But that's not all: she'll be joined by actresses who previously took on the role, including Claire Foy and Olivia Colman. Netflix confirmed that they will be "reprising their roles for the final time." Plus, Viola Prettejohn is said to join the cast in a flashback as a young Elizabeth during World War II.

As for the newcomers, Prince William will be played by two different actors, Rufus Kampa and Ed McVey (one in his teenage years and the other slightly older). Kate Middleton will be played by Meg Bellamy and Prince Harry will be played by both Fflyn Edwards and Luther Ford.

We'll also see lots of familiar faces from season 5: Prince Phillip will be played by Jonathan Pryce, Princess Margaret will be played by Leslie Manville, Charles (now King Charles II) will be played by Dominic West, and Princess Diana will be played by Elizabeth Debicki.
