Barbie continues to rule the box office! Since its release on July 21, it has broken record after recordâincluding biggest opening weekend in 2023, largest opening for a female director ever, and Warner Bros.' highest grossing domestic release in history. More than that, it's a bonafide cultural phenomenon. The whole world is thinking pink!
It's really no surprise that Barbie reached such heights given just how great the Greta Gerwig film is. We haven't stopped thinking about it since our trip to the theater. Between the significant yet so hilarious script (including all those wonderful quotes from the movie), the phenomenal performances by both Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling, the delightful wardrobe, and even the fun filming locations themselves, there's just so much to love.
And it's about to get even better! Soon you'll be able to say, "Hi Barbie" from the comfort of your own home! Yep, a digital release is finally headed our way. As of now, the only way you can take a trip to Barbie Land is by grabbing tickets for a big screen showing. But that's about to change! And once it does, as Barbie herself says: âIt is the best day ever. So was yesterday, and so is tomorrow, and every day from now until forever.â
So, when exactly can we expect to turn our own screens pink? According to Variety, Barbie is set to release on digital platforms on September 5. Yay! You can even go ahead and pre-order the film on Amazon now for $24.99. Along with the digital release, the Barbie movie Blu-ray and DVD are also already available for pre-order at retailers such as Amazon and Walmart. (Be sure to grab a few collectible Mattel Barbie dolls based on the movie while you're at it.)
You might also be wondering how you can stream the Barbie movie. While there's no official word on when the billion-dollar blockbuster will appear on streaming services, we can make a guess based on when Warner Bros. has released movies on Max (previously HBO Max) in the past. Most new films are available on Max within 45 days of the theatrical release, meaning Barbie should hit the platform this fall. Yay!
